#6B8E23 15-Sep-2007 The veteran Archaeologist Dr. R. Nagaswamy, Formerly Director of Archaeology and Former Vice Chancelor Kanchipuram University, was honoured with a Copper plate citations at the meeting of the Tamilnadu Arcaeological Society at its meeting at Coimbatore on the 21-7-2007 in the midst of a very large gathering of research scholars and historians. Professor Noboru Karoshima paid rich tributes to Dr. Nagaswamy for his all-round contribution to Archaeology in Tamilnadu and said that he knew Dr.Nagaswamy from 1963 onwards and realized his Sound scholarship and indefatigable works. Iravatham Mahadevan said that he has come specially to felicitate Nagaswamy for his services to the younger generations. Professor Subbarayalu paid great encomium on the distinguished scholar for training many batches of Epigraphists and all those who are today as the foremost epigraphists were trained by him. Nagaswamy made Archaeology and Epigraphy so popular that there is a great interest throughout the length and breadth of Tamilnadu, Subbarayalu said. He also commended Nagaswamy for making use of modern technology like Computer, long before any Government agency or University ever thought of utilizing them and brought the Tamil antiquities and epigraphy to the notice of the world of Scholars. Pulavar Raju who composed the Copper plate renderings said he was privileged and proud to study under Dr.R.Nagaswamy as his principal student and mentioned he was his guru. There were many other speakers who spoke about his untiring work even to this day in all fields of Art, History and Culture Including Music and Dance. The citations, inscribed in a traditional manner on Copper Plates, were read and presented to him. The presentation which is in Tamil Poetic form Composed by Pulavar Raju is reproduced below. ஐம்பது ஆண்டுஆக அருந்தமிழ் கலைகளோடு கற்பொறிகள் இயல் இசை நாடகம் ஆம் அத்துணை துறைகள் தோறும் அயர்விலா துழைத்துலகு எங்கிலும் சீர்த்தி யோடு மக்கள் தம் மத்திதன்னில் அறிவினை வளர்த்த செல்வர் சிலை மீட்ட செம்மல் என்றும், கலைமா மணியே என்றும் தமிழகத் தொல்லியல் தன்தந்தையே என்று இலங்கும் ஈடிலா அறிஞர் டாக்டர் இரா நாகசாமிப் பெரியோருக்கு தமிழகத் தொல்லியல் கழகம் சேர்ந்த செம்மையோர் இசைந்துகூடி பெருமையோ டளித்த செப்புப்பட்டயச் செய்யுள் ஈதாம் தமிழகத் தொல்லியல் கழகம், தஞ்சாவூர் கங்கையில் புனிதமாய காவிரிக்கரையில் ஓங்கி கொங்கு மேல் அரைய நாட்டில் குலவிய ஊஞ்சலூரில் பங்கமில் குலத்தில் தோன்றிப் பலகலை கற்றுயர்ந்தே எங்கள் தொல்லியல் குடும்ப ஏந்தலாம் நாகசாமி பல்விதம் அதை வளர்த்துப் பாங்குடன் விரிவதாக்கி நல்லாலி ன்விழுது போல நாடெங்கும் கிளை பரப்பி எல்லையில் பணிகள் செய்தார். கல்வெட்டு கல்வி தந்து காசியல் விளக்கம் தந்து பல்லோலை சுவடித் தேடிப் பன்னூல்கள் பதிப்புச் செய்து கல் செபபுப் படிமம் ஆய்ந்து கட்டிடக் கலையும் தேர்ந்து நல்லோவியங்கள் போன்று நற்கலை விளக்கம் செய்தார். பட்டயப் படிப்பினோடு பயில் கோடைப் பயிற்சி எல்லாம் திட்டமாய் தந்தீர் அஃதால் தொல்லியல் ஆய்வர்கூட்டம் பட்டாளம் எனக் கிளம்பி பல்திசை எங்கும் தேடி கொட்டியே குவிக்கின்றார்கள் குறைவிலாத் தொல்பொருட்கள் இயற்றமிழ் துறைகள் கண்டு இசைப்பாடல் பலவும் பாடி நயமிகு நாட்டியத்தின் நாடகம் பலவும் தந்து பயனுலகு அறியச் செய்து பாரெல்லாம் புகழும் உம்மை வியன்நற் றமிழின் நல்ல வித்தகர் எனப்பகர்வோம். பத்தூர்ஆ னந்தக்கூத்தர் பரங்கியர்க்கும் அருள வேண்டி புத்தூரில் சென்றே அங்கு புகுந்தனர் அங்கே சென்றே பத்தியால் வாதில் வென்றே பண்புடன் கொணர்ந்த உம்மை வித்தகமாய்ச் சிலைமீட்ட செம்மல் எனப்புகழ்வர் கச்சி மாமுனிவர் கண்டகவின் கலைக்கழகம் தன்னில் நச்சியே துணை வேந்தர் என்று நல்கினர் பதவி தன்னை மெச்சியே பன்னாட்டார்கள் மேன்மையாய் அழைத்து உம்மை உச்சிமேற் கொண்டு உயர்வாய் மெச்சியே புகழ்ந்துரைத்தார் எல்லையில் காலம் எல்லாம் எம் நாகசாமியின் பேர் கல்லிலே எழுத்துப்போல கவின் செப்புப் பொறிப்புப் போல அல்லிலும் நிலவும் போல ஆதவன் நிலவும் போல நல்விதம் என்றும் நிற்க நயமுடன் வாழ்த்துகிறோம் இவன் தமிழகத் தொல்லியல் கழகத்தார். கோவை 21-07-2007
