 The Kongu country had three main territorial divisions. The largest called “Kongu mandalam”.  The second is the Territorial division called “nadu” consisting of a number of villages grouped together. This was the larger administrative unit. The third is the village called “Ur”. There is an interesting poem sung by Karmegha pulavar named “Kongu mandala satakam” (Hundred poems on Kongu region)  which gives the boundaries of Kongu Mandalam, the number and names of the Nadu divisions and the number of Villages. According to this work there were 24 Territorial divisions called Nadus. Under these divisions were the Urs Villages. There were altogether 615 villages in this Mandalam. The number of Nadus and the number of villages under each are given below
